News from Omega Garden

Omega Garden Chaloklum - Live Music Every Wednesday As you all know, the Omega Garden Project in Chaloklum has become one of the major attractions in the Koh Phangan music scene. On many occasions more than 100 people have joined in to play and to listen to a wide range of music starting from free jazz over blues, rhythm and blues, to rock and, for sure, because we are in Thailand; Reggae and Ska.  The music is played by whoever likes to play and knows to handle an instrument. The musicians I have seen so far in Omega Garden have come from England, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Russia, the Ukraine, Germany, Switzerland, Thailand, Greece, the USA and probably many more countries I can’t even remember. All these musicians bring their music, their songs, their instruments and their great spirit to Omega on Wednesdays to merge with other musicians and enjoy an evening of music, art and fun!

OMEGA GARDEN WILL BE CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY 30th MARCH 2011 – AND WILL BE REOPENING ON 6th APRIL 2011

Omega Chaloklum Koh Phangan For many who live in Koh Phangan, the Omega Garden has become their standard Wednesday evening program during the past year. In December 2010, when Marco tried to extend the days of the Omega Garden Project from once a week to 4 days of art & music per week, it was soon clear that Omega was a “Wednesday Thing” and after one month, the project was back to once a week. Now for the first time since the opening party in December 2009, the Omega Garden will stay closed on one Wednesday. On Wednesday the 30th of March 2011 Omega Garden will be closed because Family reasons! Don’t worry though on Wednesday, the 6th of April Omega will be back on track and ready for you all. Kitesurfing in Koh Phangan

Chaloklum – Kitesurfing Winter Paradise in Thailand

One 2 Kite - Kitesurfing Koh Phangan Thailand Usually, from the beginning of November, the weather in Chaloklum changes. It’s getting windy and high waves roll in from the north west. The monsoon starts to show some strength. This is the time when sleepy Malibu Beach gets suddenly very busy. Sam and his crew from ONE2KITE have just moved from their summer location in Ban Tai, in the south of Koh Phangan, to the northern end of the island. Ban Tai doesn’t get much wind at this time of the year but here in Chaloklum it’s blowing strong. Until the end of December Chaloklum’s Malibu Beach will see many kitesurfers and we will all have a lot of fun on the beach.

Chaloklum Kite Surfing School ONE2KITE Koh Phangan This year the weather change came right at the beginning of the month and on November 1st. Malibu Beach was full of Boards, Kites and Harnesses. The air is filled with wind and whouuu sounds. Colorful kites are flighting high and yo can feel the fun right there! Today the wind was about 20 knots and tomorrow it will be going up to 38 knots. If you like Kitesurfing or you desperately want to learn kite boarding you should talk with Sam or one of his Kitesurfing Instructors. Until you get to Chaloklum, have a look at the pictures below. Please don’t mind the many clouds. If it looks cold… it only looks cold. It’s never cold in Thailand! And when the wind blows so hard, there is hardly any rain.

Fishing Tour in Koh Phangan

Fishing Trip Charter in Chaloklum

Kai's Fishing Tour Koh Phangan Thailand If scuba diving and wake boarding, water-skiing and kitesurfing and elephant trekking still isn’t enough entertainment for you; how about a fishing tour? Since Chaloklum is a fisherman village and fishing is what people do here most of the time, you have a lot of experts in the field here. Some fishing trips go out with longtail boats, I find this a bit uncomfortable because you cannot really walk around and during daytime it’s mostly a bit hot on the sea. I’m not saying a few hours on a longtail boat aren’t a cool experience, especially if you hop in the water in between and study all these beautiful tropical fish from nearby with mask and snorkel, but that’s nt a real fishing trip, is it?

Kais Fishing Trip Koh Phangan Thailand On a real fishing trip you go out on a bit bigger boat, not a very big one, they don’t take tourist on, but the medium sized fishing boat will do just fine. Kai, a dear friend of mine is a fisherman in Chaloklum since the day he was born. He knows the waters around Koh Phangan and he speaks OK English. Nobody’s perfect. Kai is an experienced fisherman who has changed his profession a bit towards the modern times where tourists have become a part of the picture. Today he takes out tourists on fishing trips and shows them where and how to catch the best fish. He is a very friendly and patient man who, like most fishermen, doesn’t talk much. You can hire Kai’s fishing boat for groups or you can also just get on the boat as an individual fishing enthusiast.

Kai Koh Phangan Fishing-Tour Thailand Kai’s Fishing tours will take you to places out in the sea where you can take pictures of Koh Phangan from a different angle and with a different view. When you get to a fishing spot, you’ll be provided with all fishing gear including bait, so there is nothing to worry about. What you should take with you in case is water and other stuff to drink, a hat or something else that also covers your ears and sunscreen, at least for the daytime fishing tours. You can also go fishing in the evening and leave around sunset. You’ll catch different fish and the water may turn into beer… In any case a fishing tour with Kai should be on you program when you visit Chaloklum.

A fishing trip costs around 1,000 Baht per person, depending a bit on how long you’re planing to go for and where you would like to go, which also depends a bit on the season and the time of year. You can contact P Kai directly by calling +66 (0)900 709 483.

The Omega Project

Omega Project Chaloklum - Founder Jenny Omega celebrated it’s first Birthday on December 8th/9th 2010 and it was yet another great party at the Omega Garden in Chaloklum. The Omega Project started one year ago with the idea of providing a playground for children for one day of the week and to provide a place to jam in the evening. Wednesday was a good day to start with because there where no other activities around on this day and so the first Omega party took off. Kids where there in the afternoon and a lot of activities where going on. The kids where making music on different instruments, they painted banners in all colors, they danced and even had a short Tai Chi lesson. Basically it was fun for the whole family.

Omega Garden Project Chaloklum Koh Phangan The Omega project went on for a whole year now and while the children afternoon sometimes lacks a bit on participants, the evening event has every time become a bigger success than the Wednesday before. Even if it is raining cats and dogs, Wednesday is ‘Omega Day’ and everybody loves to be there! Now, after one year, there has been a big change made in the Omega Garden Project. The place will now be open during the whole month of December and maybe even longer… from Wednesday till Saturday from 4 in the afternoon until late. Omega Bar will be open to artists who seek a place to exhibit their work and it will be open to the public during these hours.

Update January 2011 – Please note that Omega Garden is meanwhile back to the “Open on Wednesdays Only” Schedule! – Stay tuned and get all the news and latest updates on the Omega Bar Facebook Page!

Job 2 Do Live in Chaloklum Koh Phangan - Poster

Job 2 Do Live in Chaloklum Koh Phangan - Job It was a great event at the Gypsy Moon Bar in Chaloklum when Job 2 Do came to play this month. The most famous reggae band of Thailand played, as I believe, all their songs, plus a few cover songs of Bob Marley. Hundreds of people had come to the Gypsy Moon bar that night, even though Job 2 Do had already played in Haad Rin a few days earlier for the grand opening of the “Koh Phangan Countdown Week” that will end with a huge New Years Party on the 31st of December.  If you still don’t know what to do on New Years eve, you may consider to head down to Haad Rin and enjoy some great fireworks!

Job 2 Do Live in Chaloklum Koh Phangan - Crowd Job 2 Do gave a great concert in Chaloklum. They love Koh Phangan and there is a huge fan community here on the island who make every gig of Job 2 Do a success. The distinctive songs where heard all along the beach of Chaloklum and the show went on until the early morning hours. People where dancing and clapping hands all night long, After the live concert it was time for the Dj’s. Trance and Psy Trance tunes made the program for the rest of the night. Enjoy the pictures of Job 2 Do and the biggest party yet in the Gypsy Moon Bar in Chaloklum.
