This website is an homage on the beautiful and very relaxed fisherman village “Chaloklum” in Koh Phangan Thailand. The island of Koh Phangan is worldwide well known for the biggest ever full moon parties, where up to 30’000 people meet on the beach of Haad Rin. Now this is good for the economy of the tropical island and it is even better because it happens as far away from Chaloklum as possible, at the southern tip of Ko Phangan, just oposite of the famous tourist and retirement island Koh Samui.
Chaloklum was founded many years ago by a man called “Boh Ta”. Today nobody knows anymore where he actually came from but Boh Ta and his wife are believed to be the first settlers of Chaloklum. He loved the place so much that he wanted to stay here forever, so built himself a shrine where his spirit could live after he had gone. Years later the place was rediscovered by Chinese fishermen who decided to settle down in the sheltered bay of Chaloklum, gave it the name “Chaloklum”. Today Chaloklum is still a fishermen village but with a twist of tourism. Very beautiful resorts offer all kinds of accommodation from hotel rooms to beach bungalows. Chaloklum offers restaurants and bars for all taste buds no matter if you prefer Thai- or Western Food. In any case Seafood is the specialty of the region. Have a look at the pictures of Chaloklum and it’s surroundings including the Goddess of Mercy Temple.
I like you pictures, we did a Phangan Safari boat tour around Koh Phangan and was amazing experience.
How long does it take to get out to Sail Rock from Chaloklum?
Are the diving boats able to leave directly from Chaloklum, or do you have to go all the way back to Thongsala (pier)?
I reckon Chaloklum must be closest to the Sail Rock dive site?
Hi Gary, I think you are well aware of the distance from Chaloklum to Sailrock
…but anyway, for other people the question might be in fact interesting, so here it is: It takes about one hour from Chaloklum to Sailrock on a dive boat. There are four dive resorts right in Chaloklum. Most dive boats leaving Koh Phangan for Sailrock start from Chaloklum where the boats are over night. The bay of Chaloklum is very nicely sheltered against wind and weather. It also has a huge concrete pier, allowing for save embarking and disembarking. Have fun on Sailrock and all the best to Koh Tao and Simple Life Divers.
Very nice website. We can link with you when we get together if you think its a good idea.
